Our Self-Image

For an Honest Food Culture

We stand for artisanal food from small-scale agriculture. Our focus is on sheep's milk, regional cycles, and the preservation of old livestock breeds. We work with farms that operate according to ecological principles and keep their animals in a species-appropriate manner.
🐑

Sheep's Milk as a Craft

Our partner farms process the milk from their herds directly on site into cheese, yogurt, and quark. Traditional cheese-making preserves the natural flavor and valuable nutrients of the milk.

Does sheep milk taste strongly of sheep?

No, the taste is mild and slightly sweet. The aroma depends heavily on the feed and the season. Our animals graze on herb-rich meadows, which gives the milk a fine, floral note – comparable to good whole milk, but a bit richer.

Is sheep milk suitable for people with lactose intolerance?

Many affected individuals tolerate sheep milk better than cow milk, as it has a slightly lower lactose content and a different fat structure. However, this varies from person to person. We recommend starting with small amounts and paying attention to your own well-being.

How are the sheep kept on your farm?

Our herd lives on pasture year-round with weather-protected shelters. We practice extensive grazing – meaning the animals have plenty of space and move freely. In winter, we feed exclusively hay from our own meadows, without silage or concentrated feed.

Can I visit the farm or buy the milk directly?

Yes, we open our farm shop every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There you will find fresh sheep milk, yogurt, cheese, and seasonal products. We offer farm tours by appointment – just send a short email to info@gotsheepmilk.com.

Why is sheep milk more expensive than cow milk?

Sheep produce significantly less milk per animal – about 1.5 liters per day compared to 25 liters for a cow. In addition, there is the higher effort for pasture-based husbandry and artisanal processing. The price reflects the quality and the animal-friendly keeping.

How long does fresh sheep milk keep?

In the refrigerator (below 5 °C), it stays drinkable for about 4–5 days. It tastes best within the first two days. You can also freeze it – then it keeps for up to three months. After thawing, shake it briefly as the fat layer separates.
